The Origin and Development of the Huang Tai Sin Temple Fair in Qishi

The Huang Tai Sin Temple is located in the northwest of Qishi Town, close to Jinjiaoyi Ridge next to the Dongjiang River. The ancient temple was built in the 12th year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1873) and was originally named Huang Xianweng Temple. The Huang Tai Sin Festival in Qishi is a festival for people to commemorate the local celebrity Huang Runfu’s “achieve the Tao and become an immortal”. The birthday period is from the 15th to the 25th of the seventh lunar month every year, and it has a history of nearly 150 years.

Huang Runfu was compassionate and sacrificed his life to the Tao. “Ascending to immortality” is just a legend. Although he made a living by farming, he was also familiar with medical principles and practiced medicine in the local area. Komiks is respected by villagers. Later, people donated money to build a temple to commemorate him.
